VSC Fire & Security, a leading fire protection and life safety system contractor, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Extinguisher Manager for our Raleigh district office.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for management and supervision of the Fire Extinguisher Department.  Responsible to create, maintain and develop client base to meet mutually established department goals.  Has primary responsibility to generate new business and quote on contract opportunities.  Assigns and monitors work of the Fire Extinguisher Department; makes decisions regarding hiring, disciplinary action and termination of staff.  Responsible for safety and training programs for department.

Position requires a working manager whose duties may include performing safe and efficient inspection of fire protection systems. Responsible for total inspection labor performance.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge and experience related to the installation and maintenance of fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems.  Must have working knowledge of applicable State and Local Codes, NFPA Standards, and the Authorities Having Jurisdiction governing the location of the company's work geography.  Good record keeping skills is essential to complete forms and documentation related to both sales proposals, and with respect to the documentation of the inspection process.  Ability to make potential client contacts, meet external representatives at all levels of the client organization and to represent the Company in a professional manner with good interpersonal communication skills, integrity, and with the required respect for the fire protection profession's primary goals of life safety and property protection.  Demonstrated successful experience generating new business as well as management experience required.  Demonstrated PC skills including Excel, Word and customer database management.

 

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

 SALES AND ESTIMATING

  1. Maintains current client base through scheduled contact with owners and property managers.
  2. Seeks new business through follow up of leads, new contacts, specific marketing strategies and the expansion of related services.
  3. Prepares proposals, submits estimates, and negotiates contracts with new and established customers.  Diligently seeks to renew existing contracts.
  4. Monitors activity, productivity and accuracy of department inspectors to generate and maintain their client accounts.
  5. Plans and monitors job costs and profitability of contracted inspection work to meet department goals.

 INSPECTION SITE VISIT & CUSTOMER CONTACT

  1. Responsible to provide inspection oriented site evaluations to clients and to handle discrepancies, complaints, and advice on recommended remedial action or procedures as required.
  2. Establish and maintain communications with Owners, their representatives, tenants, occupants, and other contractors pertaining to anticipated inconveniences, critical outages, supervisory station notifications, and insurance carrier recommendations.
  3. Communicates as necessary with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and building inspectors where required, to represent the client's interests and to resolve issues of non-compliance or discrepancy.
  4. In all cases will work closely with clients to insure that all circumstances involving disagreement as to scope, method of handling on site conditions, or other client dissatisfaction, is handled tactfully, and with patience and integrity.
  5. Constantly monitors the inspection reports for notes and recommendations regarding discrepancy or non-compliance, and follows up with Special Projects Supervision to insure that corrective proposals and any work orders are processed in a timely fashion.  Visits site as necessary to check on progress of work, and fulfillment of contractual commitments.

 

III. SUPERVISION

  1. Directs and supervises the work of department Inspectors and support staff to insure fulfillment of contract obligations and quality control in delivery of service.
  2. Selects, trains and develops department employees.
  3. Monitors work schedules, on the job safety, and approves documentation for payroll and work-related incidents or injuries.
  4. Addresses and documents employee performance issues or attendance problems.  Provides coaching and counseling to improve on the job performance.
  5. Evaluates, disciplines (and terminates if necessary) Inspection department staff.

 SAFETY/TRAINING

  1. Ensure that all department personnel follow all site-specific and company safety standards.
  2. Ensures that ALL accidents and injuries are reported as they occur, and follows up on lost time injuries.
  3. Ensures that all Inspectors take responsibility that tools and equipment are at hand and that they meet safety requirements.
  4. Ensures that all Inspection Department staff with company vehicles follow all company driving regulations and truck maintenance protocol.

              

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Makes sales calls to established customers and to develop new business.  Requires mobility to visit client offices and other types of facilities. Visits job sites to monitor work in progress, determine scope of work for proposals. Must be capable of using ladders, lifts and scaffolding where necessary to view conditions of inspection scope, as well as access to confined spaces, attics, basements, and cooler installations. Requires visual acuity to read documents, meters and drawings as needed.

Individual also performs administrative tasks in office environment utilizing standard office equipment. Position requires visual acuity for PC and document records; requires good speaking voice for phone interaction and auditory acuity for telephone use as well as digital dexterity for PC use.

Must possess valid driver's license for use of company vehicle.

 

JOB HAZARDS:

Work performed in variety of office, commercial and industrial sites, which may include hard-hat areas.  Tasks may include lifting and moving equipment and the use of tools. Occasionally works 6 feet or more above ground level using ladders and lifts. On job sites, must remain alert to job-site hazards and safety requirements.
