The Charlotte Office of VSC Fire & Security, Inc. is looking to hire a Knox Shipping/ Receiving Person. In this position, they would be responsible for all aspects of Knox material handling, storage and record keeping. Necessary skills include installation of Knox boxes, locking caps etc. material pick up and delivery, receiving and storage of supplies, and pulling and maintaining supplies for Knox product. Reviews all receiving reports, checks bills of lading and freight bills for correct quantity and items delivered. Inspects deliveries for damage or shipping errors. Documents all withdrawals from inventory.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Experience with basic power tools with anchors and bolts, with knowledge of being able to install product in accordance with a tradespersons skill preferred. Able to understand receiving reports, bills of lading and freight bills to review and verify quantity received. Inspects deliveries for accuracy and any damaged goods. Assures that all withdrawals from inventory are properly documented. Attention to detail for inventory records and delivery invoices. Requires valid driver's license to allow use of company vehicles for delivery and pick up assignments.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

1. KNOX INVENTORY MAINTENANCE

  • Maintains all material and equipment related to the Knox product to insure safe and clean working environment and storage areas.
  • Cleans Knox area regularly, including floors, shelving and equipment areas.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for Knox material storage to ensure easy accessibility and retrieval of all Knox inventory and that stacking is done safely.
  • Insures that damaged material or equipment is repaired or replaced as necessary.

2. MATERIAL HANDLING & STORAGE

  • Receives deliveries from outside vendors, as well as VSC employees.
  • Checks material delivered against Packing List or other delivery record to insure order is correct. Prepares receiving reports as directed, identifying job name and number as needed.
  • Stores accepted materials correctly and maintains accurate records.
  • Pulls materials for job or customer, bundling and packaging items to insure safe, accurate and undamaged transit. Prepares shipping report or pull sheet.
  • Maintains accurate records of items sent, items not available, to insure appropriate action as necessary by customer, work crew, design and inventory staff.
  • Reports shortages to purchasing agent and marks on pull sheet.
  • Occasionally may handle material sold to other customers, handling packing list and pricing of items, as well as payment and record keeping
  • Drives to job site or vendor for pick up/delivery of material in a timely, accurate fashion.

3. OTHER DUTIES

  • Installs Knox product as needed, using shop equipment.
  • Determines necessary materials, such as drill, bits, anchors and bolts as needed.
  • Drives company vehicle to perform office errands as requested.
  • Assists with physical inventory preparation and inventory count as necessary.
  • May be responsible for exterior grounds maintenance as directed.

4. SAFETY/TRAINING

  • Follows all safety standards (as directed by VSC safety program.)
  • Reports ALL accidents and injuries to Field Superintendent or Purchasing Manager.
  • Follows all dress requirements for warehouse work, including safety glasses, or other protective devices when required.
  • Follows M.S.D.S. (Material Safety and Data Sheet) recommendations when working with hazardous materials.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Individual works in warehouse environment utilizing various fabrication equipment and tools. Position requires visual acuity and literacy to read purchase orders, bills of lading, and other inventory records.

Requires valid drivers license to allow use of company vehicle for delivery and errands as needed. Must be able to maintain seated position for road travel as needed.

Must be able to lift and move a 75 lb. piece of pipe or bundle. (Assistance may be available when needed.) May require certification to operate material handling equipment such as lifts, hoists, fork lifts and pallet jacks.

JOB HAZARDS:

May lift and move 75-125 pounds of equipment or supplies. Uses a variety of hand and machine tools for pipe fabrication. May use HAZCOM materials. May operate electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment using safety equipment and safety procedures. May operate material handling equipment requiring special training and certification.

When delivering materials to job sites, may traverse rough terrain and hard-hat construction areas. Must remain alert to job-site hazards and safety requirements.
