Our fast-growing fire sprinkler protection and life safety system company has a full-time career opportunity for a Service Field Supervisor for the Virginia Beach District.   With annual sales of more than $170 million, VSC Fire & Security, Inc. is growing rapidly and we are recruiting top fire protection and life safety talent to join our team.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Supervise and oversee work of service technicians and office personnel.  Regularly visit job sites for estimating purposes, service work, inspection deficiencies and inspections.  May be responsible for tool and equipment purchase and repair; equipment rental, and other field supplies as directed by the Manager.  When needed, position is required to perform job responsibilities of department employees.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Extensive knowledge of assigned department's fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with regulatory standards, and state and local codes.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand fire protection and system drawings.
  • Ability to supervise multiple projects and make recommendations in response to changing conditions to meet contract schedules.
  • Must exhibit leadership skills, including ability to communicate, address personnel issues and make recommendations to Manager related to project demands, customer service, and employee assignments.
  • Ability to perform work in an efficient and organized matter and maintain thorough record keeping skills.
  • Ability to professionally communicate with customers and provide excellent customer service.
  • Proficient with computer programs as required to create quotes, estimates or requisitions
  • Motivated to achieve a high standard of productivity.
  • Must be available to respond to phone calls in a timely fashion
  • Available for Emergency Service Calls after hours.
  • Core hours are 7am to 4pm, Monday through Friday.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Establish and maintain communication with Owners, their representatives, and other contractors pertaining to work schedules and any critical factors related to site work.
  • Visit job sites to check on employees, progress of work, and fulfillment of contractual commitments.
  • Communicate as necessary with Owners, their representatives, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and building inspectors, where required, to represent the client's interests and to resolve issues of non-compliance or discrepancy.
  • Maintain close communication with Manager regarding assigned projects and employee performance to be addressed by the General/District Manager.
  • Review the work of sub-contractors, as needed.
  • Follow up on deficiencies and communicate to Manager and Estimator

RISK MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY

  • Ensure that all department employees follow all site-specific and company safety standards.
  • Ensure that all accidents and injuries are reported as they occur, and follow up on lost time injuries.
  • Ensure that all employees take responsibility that tools and equipment are at hand, accounted for, and that they meet safety requirements.
  • Ensure that all employees with company vehicles follow all company driving regulations and vehicle maintenance protocol.
  • As directed by Manager, may provide in-service training and certification for job-specific requirements, utilizing Field Safety Manager or vendor supplied instruction.
  • Review and reinforce standard operating procedures with employees.
  • Address workplace behavior that raises risk of job-site liability or property damage.

EQUIPMENT AND FIELD SUPPLIES

  • Communicate with employees having care and custody of a vehicle to ensure required items are completed.
  • Coordinate orders and purchase documentation with Purchasing Agent.
  • Establish and maintain tool inventory system and records for company owned tool and equipment assigned to work crew.
  • Manage equipment rentals.
  • Coordinate ordering and delivery of field supplies with Purchasing Agent to meet unique project needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

                        Work performed in variety of office, commercial and industrial sites, which may include hard-hat areas.

Mobility is required to travel to job sites with the ability to extensively walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, and be physically able to climb ladders and use lifts.  May be required to work in confined spaces (with special training.)

 

Requires visual acuity for PC and document records, meters, plans, and ability to discern colors for safety signage.

Requires good speaking voice for phone interaction and auditory acuity for telephone use as well as digital dexterity for PC use.

 Ability to read written documents and legible handwriting to document various site/ system conditions as a part of record keeping responsibilities.

Able to move materials and equipment to a maximum of 50-75 pounds per employee. 

Must be available to work additional hours as needed. 

Must be able to accept assignments requiring overnight travel.

As a representative of the company, employee is expected to maintain acceptable interpersonal communication and appropriate behavior on all work sites and when interacting with customers.

 

Must have valid driver's license with acceptable driving record to be approved to drive company vehicle.  May be required to meet security screening for specific job assignments.

 

JOB HAZARDS:

Work performed in variety of office, commercial and industrial sites, which may include hard-hat areas.  Tasks may include lifting and moving 50-75 pounds of equipment or supplies and the use of hand and power tools.  May work 6 feet or more above ground level using ladders and may work HAZCOM materials.  On job sites, must remain alert to job-site hazards and safety requirements.               

 

Must possess valid driver's license. Must provide criminal background information to meet Department of Criminal Justice authorization card standards.
